I sat waiting for a plane yesterday and made some patterns from a scan of some drawings I've been working on lately. Therapeutic....

Shoe-Horned Decoration

This was a pitch I worked on for  a high street fashion brand a month or two back. They needed some illustrated  decorative elements to collage over photography.

It was one of those jobs where the brief was quite open at first but then quickly gets extremely specific as soon as you put pen to paper. I think often, people will not fully know what they want, until they see something that they definitely don't. So two or three shoe-horned attempts later, you're told you're just not the right illustrator for the job (despite that probably being quite apparent from the start.)

It's always a little frustrating, as it's hard to not feel like it's been a waste of time.. but in the same breath, when the hell else would I have drawn a peacock feather with a creepy eye in it surrounded by flowers?

Mean Girls At The Beach

I dreamt the other night after working on this image that I was being forced to jump into big pools of crabs. I think i'm still deeply traumatised from the time I was about 8 and I fell into the biggest rockpool going on Rhosneigr beach ... right after we'd all just tipped our buckets full of crabs back in there. The worst!

I'm In The Warm

Something for my mum for Mother's day, she sacrificed 10 years of Sunday mornings for us little swines.

Editorial Illustrations, Revisited.

I've been having a bit of an on-going colour overhaul across my portfolio this year. Things were looking a bit drab.

A Spruced Up Oldie

I recoloured this image recently for my portfolio, I originally had to make it two colour for the wonderful Curious Stories for Curious Minds project here. But thought it could do with a bit of a colour-overhaul.

Belated Valentine's Wishes

A little something I drew last week for the curly haired wonder in my life. God Valentine's Day is a bit weird.

A Floral Pitch

Last month I had the nice task of pitching for some work for the Chelsea Flower Show. Flowers are really therapeutic to draw, I should draw them more often!

Nominate Someone Happy

A new illustration for ANORAK's workshop at the new H&M store opening in Aylesbury next weekend. A bit brighter than usual...

Frankie Magazine : Weight For The Anchor

My Rocky Votolato inspired illustration 'Weight For The Anchor To Keep Your Ship Here' is folded up and tucked away in the latest issue of dreamy Australian magazine Frankie. It's in the shape of a large pull-out poster with a calendar printed onto the back... and I'm made up with it, it's printed so nicely, I love Frankie Magazine!!

Also, to my lovely surprise.. one of my favourite photographers Annie Collinge is also in there with her amazing mermaid project. Go take a look :

Some more Line-less People

Something from my day job....

Taken from a painting I made recently for a scheme the architecture studio I work for has rustled up. It's quite freeing to draw without accurate lines.

Thank Yous

A little doodle of a fairly generic bunch of flowers I did on my lunch break the other day. These will be plopping onto the door mats of my relatives soon....

Stealth Christmas Commission

This was a little private commission I got just before Christmas. It was a wide open brief for a portrait of the lovely fashion designer and her two year old niece, Emily who is completely obsessed with her. I've drawn Emma before (over here) so it was lovely to do it again in  slightly more bonkers surroundings.

I hope it made her laugh on Christmas day.

Letters to Santa

Some little postcard / letter box doodles for ANORAK's Letters to Santa workshop that happened at the new store in Richmond's opening day yesterday. Big thanks to the ever fabbo Cathy from ANORAK for a wonderful year of working together. One of the best eggs.

As a side note, santa is quite hard to draw, like hands and horses.

Spot Illustrations

A bunch of three colour spot illustrations relating to me and the jobs I do or have done. I have selectively left out a bunch of the shittier jobs I've done in my time, although may extend the series if only to draw the time I worked as a cleaner in a Jewish ladies home, who had me polishing religious trinkets with what turned out to be her dead husbands old Y-fronts.

Colouring Outside Your Guidelines

Some doodles without outlines.

A Winter White Christmas Special

Lucky old me got another wonderful opportunity to work with Cathy and her dreamy magazine ANORAK with this pull out colouring - in sheet for H&M's winter wardrobe. A slightly different spin on the advertorials I've done this year and working with such little colour scared the crap out of me at first. But i'm proud to announce that the Christmas issue is OUT NOW!!! So sharpen your crayolas and get to work....

Point Break

I drew this picture for a present for a big Point Break fan a while back. It's so gross I can barely look at it... but it kind of makes me chuckle at the same time.

Summer Sillies

Since summer's well and truly over, I thought I'd post up a few photos from my travels this year.

New York, New York : June. Spent two weeks out in my favourite city earlier this summer. It was wonderful, that city kills me. Lots of amazing food, good friends and a new snazzy Myles Karr doodle on my ribs.

Bontddu, Wales : July. I took my bike and rode to the camp site from the Station, I think I saw about 3 cars during the entire 45 minute journey... not a double decker bus in sight.

Valencia, Spain : September. There's a lot to be said for spending your days holding hands, swimming in the sea and  riding your bike for hours in the beautiful sunshine.

Bath, Somerset : September. A surprise trip to Bath which involved running round a woods in army gear, fancy pants dinner at the Royal Crescent, a peaceful journey in a hot air balloon, a not so peaceful landing in a farmer's field somewhere and finally a party at the Roman Baths. It blew my mind
